It makes sense to add anti-oxidants to your diet when pushing your body and having a high oxidant load. The orange color of carrots can bring many benefits. It contains the antioxidants alpha and beta carotene. Carrots contain fiber and potassium, known for maintaining heart health. According to the American Heart Association, potassium helps relax the blood vessels.

A study in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that green and orange vegetables, non starchy vegetables, lowered the levels of bad fats in the body, helping to regulate insulin levels.

They also found that very small differences • around 30 grams per day • were associated with improvements in insulin levels and a decrease in bad fats in the body. Some types of body fats are dangerous because they can cause serious complications, such as sending the wrong signals to the brain when and how much to eat.

The researchers stressed that it is the type of vegetable that matters, and added that starchy vegetables such as corn and potatoes, could not reap the same benefits as green leafy vegetables and orange options.

The study was published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
